Artist Wanted

Are you an illustrator or digital artist? And you love art not because of money but because of art itself? Then you’re welcome to join 🙂

Introduction

First of all, let me put things straight. There are two kinds of people. First, they charge you for everything they do (even if you ask them to call you back (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ ) The second type are those who love opportunities, no matter how small it is. After all, an opportunity is an opportunity. It’s a great way to convey something   they wanted to share or show, be it artwork, songs and so on.

So if you are the kind who ask for money for every little things you do, then forget about it because you are just destroying your chance. I knew of some talented artists, both that mentioned the word ‘money’ at the beginning of the sentence and those that don’t when they offer you a deal. If you were in my shoes, which one would you consider to deal with? Of course the second choice right? Because the first one just makes you feel that all they want is money and that is totally not cool. Just to mind you. peoples’ relationship are not bonded by ‘money’ If there is all there is to it, then it’s a fake one and will lead you nowhere.

You need to look at things in the long term. Even if you successfully ‘grabbed’ some money away from your ‘clients’ today, they may start to avoid you tomorrow. Worst still, they may spread news on how ‘money-minded’ you are and this causes a multiply effect, in which more and more people avoid you.

Passion

Things work out best if the driving force behind it is passion. It’s a natural source of ‘fuel’ to push you forward, making you want to do more. The strange thing about passion is that it often attracts like-minded people to you, thus increasing your network besides motivating yourself.

Just to share a short story with you. My passion has always been with art, video games and toys ever since I was in primary school. In fact, because of these, I was able to meet my best friend 🙂 We’been best friends for more than 10 years now 🙂 The first time we talked was about Final Fantasy VII. It seemed that we were the only 7 years old kids who play that in the entire grade 🙂 We had a good time talking about games and identifying our similarities. For the next 5 years in school, we made drawing books, filled with character designs and Digimon characters ^^ To make a long story short, we just love what we are doing 🙂

And there were also times when classmates offered us money for our Dragon Ball pictures but we didn’t do it because it’s not about money. Through personal experience, I knew that no matter what you do or who you are, be it a student, worker, teacher, etc. your passion can be something else, not related to what you are currently doing.

Say if you’re a lawyer (in a fictional setting) and you’ve always love art. There is nothing wrong with it. Due to your passion, you visit the art galleries often, admiring the paintings on the wall and wanting to know more, you got yourself to know about the artist, thus making some new friends who are artist besides having only friends who are lawyers 🙂 But if you care only about money, say you like the paintings not because of the art but for profit, then you have again destroy yourself. You think that dealing in artwork will make you richer but you’re wrong. Because at many times, people will come up to you and ask you about it, say, “who’s the artist?”, “what kind of style is that?”, “what technique is it?” and so on but you cannot answer it. You’d probably say “Oh, I don’t know. I just bought it because I think it will sell for quite some big amount”. Puff, you’d just give a bad impression.

Important note

You don’t have to be a super professional to join. If you can draw and paint digitally, that’s good enough 🙂 Currently I have other hobbyist/artist joining as well 🙂 And this post is to make the invitation more official ^^ If you have a Deviantart or pixiv account, you can upload your work of Figure Culture’s Mascot there and leave a link to it in the comment section below 🙂 You can also include your twitter or facebook link.

Benefits

Well, no money will be paid to anyone but take this as an opportunity to:

1)Improve yourself in your artwork

2)Gain more exposure (increase your chance of getting linked to google-sensei)

3)Expand your network

4)Have fun

5)Gain new experience

6)If we like your work, we’ll make you our illustrator (yes, you will be paid!)

  1. I know how you feel. There are those for the money and those for only the passion for it. But some do not realise in reality that this kind of job can be actually quite hard. As for me who wants to do illustration as a career, I have always wanted to do it as it was a dream of mine. But those experiences you mentioned reminded me of when I was in school and people always asked me to draw things for them, and I happily did free of charge.

But I would love to do an illustration of the mascot.

Hopefully you won’t mind if it takes a little while? Only because I have university work which can take up a lot of my time ._.’

    • Thanks Sabine!!! I’m really honored to have you to do an illustration of the mascot 🙂 I don’t mind as long as you want to do it! ^^ So are you taking illustration as your study course in university?

      • You’re very welcome : )

I haven’t produced drawings for others (besides my boyfriend and relatives) in such a long time, so it will be really nice to go back to it ^__^

I’m actually taking a graphic design course, although my first choice was illustration — they combined the two together. It is mainly a design focused course, though, so I try to incorporate as much illustration as I can within it : )

  2. Oh, I see (^o^) that’s very interesting! So I must be the lucky one besides your boyfriend and relatives! ლ(╹◡╹ლ) Hahaha! So I’ll be looking forward to it ^^ Take care and thanks again “ヽ(´▽`)ノ” Good luck in your studies d=(´▽`)=b
